A cell phone is a wonderful thing to have; it enables us to communicate in all sorts of out of the way places and situations. However, sometimes our communication options, even with a cell phone, are limited by circumstances. For instance, it is a proven fact that talking on a cell phone while driving affects the driver’s concentration, not to mention control of the vehicle, and has been known to cause accidents. Likewise, in these days of digital cameras in your cell phone, you can take pictures or record video anywhere as long as you have your cell phone with you. But how do you get the pictures off your cell phone after taking them? Technology is a wonderful thing, but sometimes you wonder if it isn’t just causing you more problems.
Well, there are solutions to these two particular problems and more. There are a couple of ways of getting around the fact that until relatively recently, using your cell phone meant having at least one hand out of commission in order to keep the handset against your head. Now you can get a hands-free cable set that attaches to the cell phone at one end and has headphones at the other. This way the cell phone can stay in your pocket or on the car seat next to you and you can carry on your conversation with less risk to yourself and other drivers on the road around you.
There is also another hands-free solution that doesn’t even require a cable. This is particularly handy to get installed in your car so that you don’t have to worry about cables. You get a base mounted in your car where you place your cell phone whenever you are in the vehicle. The base keeps your cell phone securely in place while the car is moving and allows you to dial numbers with one finger, just as you would if you were holding the handset in your hand. When you put the cell phone in the base it communicates through the hands-free system in the vehicle (usually a microphone or two placed in the corners of the roof to pick up the voices of the car’s occupants) so that you can drive and talk without having to touch your cell phone at all.
For getting your pictures, music and videos off your cell phone; you can get a USB data cable, rather like what you probably currently use to download photos from your digital camera to your laptop. All you have to do is connect the cell phone to the computer using the data cable and you can easily download anything you like, as well as being able to upload files to your cell phone from your computer.
When it comes to accessories for your cell phone, you should be able to get them from the manufacturer, but this can be costly. Luckily you have the option of finding them at an online store which stocks accessories from all manufacturers. You can find everything you need at one internet store rather than having to go and look around a few street stores in order to find what you need.

Buying your first cell phone is quite an undertaking and it can be difficult to know where to start. After all, there are so many options out there that it can be quite overwhelming; pre pay, post pay, Nokia, Sony Ericsson, not to mention all the different networks to consider. Before you get as far as choosing a network, you have to think about what type handset you want. There are so many from which to choose and they all offer a different combination of features. How on earth are you supposed to decide?
Think about this logically rather than just getting the most hyped package without thinking it through. First of all, what can you afford to spend? You generally pay the full price for the handset when you select a pre pay package in which you pay for call credit in advance. However, if you are willing to sign a contract to pay a specified amount per month for a specific number of minutes, the handset is less expensive, if not free. In general, the longer the contract, the cheaper the handset will be. It is common to get very expensive handsets completely free with a long contract.
Determine how much you can afford to spend on a monthly basis. If you are in the habit of making a lot of calls, it is very easy to run up an enormous bill by not paying attention to the time of day you are calling. It is usually cheaper, or even free, to call in off-peak times such as between 7pm and 7am. Contracts are available that allot you a certain number of free minutes each month for a fixed amount that you pay at the end of each month. If your contract costs you as much as you can afford in each fixed payment, be careful not to go over your free minutes. Be aware of what time you are placing calls and how long your calls last and this should keep you within budget.
When it comes to choosing a handset, think about the features you want. If you only need the most basic type handset, then that is what you should get. A basic phone is less likely to get stolen than a more advanced phone. And in general, the fewer features the phone has, the less likely it is to go wrong. What features do you want for your phone? What do you intend to use the phone for, business or simply chatting and texting? Do you want a color screen and digital camera? Do you need multimedia messaging? Do you want to be able to make video calls? Do you want to be able to download ring tones and music and listen to them on your cell? Do you want to be able to access the Internet from your cell phone or send and receive emails? Do you need to read and send files in attachment? Make sure you know exactly what you want and then shop for it. The various handset manufacturers offer a wide array of differing features to choose from. If you want something with specific options, make sure that you get a phone capable of satisfying your needs.
